Took some time - a break

It happened....  the gradual slip of discipline, fatigue, and bad trading habits.  I blew out the Topstep Combine (step 2) mid-month and instead of buying a reset, Dadd took a break and settled into facing the dark bullshit that's been pulling the wool over my eyes lately.  Getting back to basics and putting my system into a honed definition and REALLY discovering how my trading game slips from a solid A game to a really rough C game.  A new perspective was born.

Back at the combine as of Nov 1 and somehow it all feels better... Dadd is operating a new mental machine and the timing is right.

Keep working!

The mental game

Trading days.... they all vary greatly with market conditions and more importantly, the conditions that make up the mental outlook, inner calm, and execution.  Dadd has been on a journey to achieve progress and sharpen skills on the wheel of success and failure.  Keeping the losses small and the patience on top is great.... but sometimes it all goes to poop. Mental collapse, life stuff, sleep, all provide an odd mix into the performance.  The Audio book 'The Mental Game of Trading' by Jared Tendler has brought keen insight to my mental game and putting his input into my brain armory.

The 'self-inflicted' pain of FOMO trading and chasing entries etc are the moments of clarity needed to nourish the patience to execution.

Keep the EQ (emotional awareness) blade sharp!

Short bias - entries and exits

MNQ was the ticker for me today.  A busy morning led to little time on the monitors so Dadd caught a few trades from the phone.  Sometimes this works with less trades and a clear mind doing other things than getting 'tick hypnotized'.

The 300 point drop in the overnight session + the opening 30 minutes brought about some patience to wait for the buying off the bottom to peter-out.  Keltner channels gave great info and trade triggers especially with the 5x chart.  Negative divergence on the MACD gave a signal of buyer exhaustion.

Entries were great and stops were put on-side (in-the-money) in a timely fashion.  I was short biased and that was the plan after the morning evidence.  The third short entry was solid with the sellers giving some follow-through and it was nearly and measured move from the first push down.

OPEX Friday - a good fit today

Options expiration Friday is full of shenanigans with market makers doing their best to kill premium and manuever the market to their liking.  Sometimes chop and randomness fits my style to a T and today was one of those.

77 Trades is a lot and I can tell the exhaustion lead to losing focus a few times and I had to take a step back more than once to level off my head. OPEX days (and the last week) I was eager to move the stops in the money sooner than later.

Topstep Combine Step 2

A few trades on YM:  The yellow box is the 5 minute opening range with the light blue being VWAP.  The Hull MA is orange.

1 A re-visit to the opening range low
2 looking for a retrace from the top of the range
3 Price action popped through the mid of keltner channel to a pull-back entry - sold at VWAP
4 Entered long again with consolidation above mid - major pop and sold top of the channel

About 200 points ($1000)

Topstep Combine - PASS

Something clicked and I found myself in-tune with market conditions and the mental fortitude to side-step fear.  Risk control has been at the forefront and to be honest it's been a difficult grind to manage my mental state when trading.  Onto step 2.
